Question and Answers

Why are we creating a strategic plan?

A strategic plan will help provide a roadmap for the work of the university over the next five to 10 years. As such, it will provide the context for decision making in the areas of academic planning, faculty development, resource allocation, employee recruitment and compensation, and infrastructure planning.

What will the Strategic Planning Committee members do?

In addition to overseeing the planning process, the Strategic Planning Committee will review reports from the task forces and prepare a draft strategic plan in January 2011 for review and comment by the campus community during the spring semester. The task force chairs, Strategic Planning Committee Steering Committee, an alumni representative, and a member of the Board of Trustees comprise the full Strategic Planning Committee.

How were the nine task forces identified and members selected?

The nine task forces were identified as a result of a day long planning retreat held for University Council and members of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee in July. For more information, read a report of accomplishments from the retreat. Chairs and potential members of task forces were identified by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee with the help of University Council.

How do I get involved?

All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to provide input and feedback during the strategic planning process. The Chancellor’s Installation Town Hall Forum on October 26 (Time TBD) in Stewart Theater will provide an opportunity for the Chancellor and others leading the strategic planning efforts to hear from members of the campus at large. Individual task forces will also be soliciting input on specific topics. You may also provide feedback to the Strategic Planning Committee at any time via this feedback form.

How do I get updates?

Open and consistent communication with the campus community, partners and friends is vital to a rich, interactive conversation that leads to a robust strategic plan. Updates will be shared with the campus community through several outlets including this Web site, the Bulletin, NCSU external e-newsletter, the Technician, Faculty Senate and Staff Senate, and student government.
